What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy, with roots in ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Indigenous healing traditions, that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance. Using the hands, reflex points on the feet are worked to access acupressure points and energy pathways connected to organs, glands, and systems throughout the whole body.
Reflexology helps release areas of tension and blocked energy, supporting the body’s natural self-regulating processes and a return towards homeostasis.
Our health is often challenged by the stresses of modern life, yet given the chance, the body wants to heal. Our feet, often confined in shoes, bear our weight, support our posture, and connect us to the ground and the subtle energies around us.
The goal of reflexology is to trigger a state of equilibrium by releasing areas of blocked energy. It:
• Reduces stress and induces relaxation
• Improves circulation
• Cleanses the body of toxins and impurities
• Balances the whole system - homeostasis
• Revitalises our energy
• Stimulates the body's immune system
• Helps to relieve pain
Reflexology is not a massage, a medical treatment, or a replacement for one; it cannot be used to diagnose conditions or prescribe medication.
Hand reflexology works on the same principles as foot reflexology, using reflex points that correspond to the whole body. It offers a convenient option for those who may find foot reflexology difficult.
While the feet are generally more effective due to their larger and denser reflex points - meaning treatments on the hands may take longer to produce a full response - hand reflexology remains a practical and effective way to support the body’s balance and function.
