What is Jikiden Reiki?

Across many Eastern healing traditions, life is understood as guided by a natural flow of energy. This vital force shapes our physical health, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing.

Reiki Ryoho, originating in Japan in the early 20th century, is a natural hands-on therapeutic practice to support harmony within both body and mind. Its gentle, restorative approach invites the nervous system to settle, helping the body’s own healing processes.

The style I practise is Jikiden Reiki®. Jikiden means “directly passed down”, reflecting the pure teachings of Mikao Usui and Dr Chujiro Hayashi. Rooted deeply in Japanese culture and supported by over 65 years of practice, Jikiden Reiki was brought to the world by Chiyoko Yamaguchi, who learned directly from Dr Hayashi at the age of seventeen. She dedicated her life to sharing Reiki within her family and community, keeping the tradition alive with clarity and authenticity.

Learning to offer Jikiden Reiki - and, through it, learning how to support others in their natural healing - has been a genuine gift. The practice is grounding and beautifully simple, yet rich with depth and meaning.

What are the benefits of Jikiden Reiki?

  • For the Body...

Our physical symptoms, whether gentle whispers or louder signals, are the body’s way of communicating that something needs attention. Every ache, tension, or imbalance is a message inviting us to pause, listen, and respond.

    Jikiden Reiki supports:

Pain Relief – Helpful for injuries, muscular tension, and post-surgical discomfort.
Improved Circulation – Enhances blood flow, contributing to healthier tissues and more efficient healing.
Stronger Immune Function – By reducing stress and activating deep relaxation, Reiki supports the body’s natural defences.
Balance & Harmony – Restores homeostasis by supporting the flow within the body’s energetic and physiological systems.

  • For the Mind...

Recognising the body and mind are interconnected is central to Jikiden Reiki. Our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs influence our wellbeing just as our physical state affects our mental and emotional health.

Hands-on Reiki sessions support emotional balance, encouraging calmness, relaxation, and a sense of inner stability. For more targeted work with persistent thought patterns or behaviours, the psychological technique Sei Heki Chiryo (taught at Okuden level) can help release unhelpful habits and cultivate positive change.

    Jikiden Reiki supports:

Stress Relief – Encourages calm, reduces anxiety, and nurtures long-term emotional stability.
Emotional Release – Provides a safe space to process and release stored emotions.
Improved Sleep – Promotes deeper, more restorative rest.

  • For the Soul...

A teacher of mine once said that we are spiritual beings here on Earth to experience ‘Earth School.’ We are a human being, not a human doing.

We can feel the interconnectedness of all things - with one another, with nature, and with the world around us.

    Jikiden Reiki supports:

Awakening the Tamashi (Soul Connection) – Nurtures the individual tamashi, encouraging spiritual growth and a deeper sense of purpose.

Inner Peace & Emotional Balance – Helps foster a centred state that supports wellbeing.

Connection to Universal Energy – Deepens your experience of the greater tamashi (universal source), and sense of connection.

Authentic Living – Supports alignment with your true self and spiritual path, helping you live with intention, integrity, and meaning.
